GRAPES

100% Sauvignon Blanc

DISTRICT OF ORIGIN OF GRAPES

100% Marlborough with the fruit coming from our home vineyard in the Waihopai Valley.

The fruit for this wine was sourced from ‘D Block’ in our home vineyard. Hand picked and
whole bunch pressed, the juice was minimally settled before running to various French
oak formats for warm fermentation using cultivated yeast. Post fermentation, the wine
was aggressively stirred twice weekly. The wine was transferred out of barrel in late
August 2013 for bottling in early October.

Precise and nuanced with soft, sweet oak interwoven with stonefruits on entry, giving
way to focused grapefruit and lemon flavours building to a sustained, gently mineral finish.

FOOD MATCH

Ideal with fresh seafood, but the wine has enought texture and weight to complement

WINEMAKERS COMMENTS

This wine is the inaugural release of the Sound of White Sauvignon Blanc by
Catalina Sounds. Sourced exclusively from our home vineyard, the wine captures
our most interesting parcels of fruit from the 2013 vintage, giving an alternative
expression of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. Fermented and aged in oak, yet bottled
early to retain fruit vibrancy, the wine strikes a balance between textural interest
and fruit purity.

5 Stars.

A wine by Catalina Sounds, this is a lovely barrel-infl uenced Sauvignon. The complex bouquet shows ripe citrus, stone fruit, dried herb and subtle nutty aromas. Its concentrated and weighty on the palate with lovely texture, beautifully supported by bright acidity. The length is impressively long and mouth-watering. At it’s best now to 2018.

Raymond Chan Wine Reviews

5 Stars.

Fruit from the ‘D’ block in the home ‘Sound of White’ vineyard in the Waihopai
Valley, hand-picked and whole-bunch-pressed, and warm-fermented in various
large oak formats to 12.8% alc. and dryness, the wine aged at least 4 months in
oak, undergoing batonnage. Bright, very pale straw colour with slight green hues,
lighter on rim. The bouquet is elegant with concentrated aromas of nectarines,
white stonefruits and gooseberries, entwined with barrel-ferment nutty elements,
the nose unfolding layers of herbs and flinty mineral interest. Dry to taste and
medium-bodied, a tightly focused and linear flow of complex nectarine and flinty
flavours is a feature on the palate. The barrel-ferment layers provide nuance
and detail. The fruit has a subtle richness and succulence adding to the creamy
mouthfeel, which is countered by a fine, grainy, textural backbone and fresh,
brisk acidity. The wine leads to a long, lingering, dry finish. This is a concentrated
barrel-influenced Sauvignon Blanc with complex detail and tight textures. Serve
with herb-infused poultry and pork dishes over the next 2-3+ years.
