2016 EASTER SHOW WINE AWARDS
2015 AIR NEW ZEALAND WINE AWARDS
A drought summer and a little frost damage resulted in low crops and fruit with excellent concentration of flavour. This wine is true to form with attractive stonefruit blossom, pear, beeswax and spice notes. The palate has richness and weight but is not heavy and finishes cleansing, focussed and long.
Waihopai Valley, Marlborough
Exclusively sourced from our 4Ha Pinot Gris block at Sound of White Vineyard, in Marlborough’s Waihopai Valley. This vineyard is predominantly grown on clay loam soil with 2 cane, spur pruned vines.
Hand-picked fruit (21/3 & 26/3/15) was whole bunch pressed and then
two fermentation techniques were used. 80% was fermented slowly with high solids in stainless steel building weight whilst preserving aromatics. The balance 20% was fermented warm and fast in French oak puncheons. All parcels sat unsulphured on heavy lees until early September, building savouriness, aromatic interest and a strong textural element into the wine. In mid-September, the components were blended and prepared for bottling (13/10/15).

At its prettiest when young, Pinot Gris develops flavour and weight in the bottle. Drink with confidence through until 2017.
Lovely to drink on its own, it will also match beautifully with pork belly, quail or other poultry, and Asian themed dishes.
This distinctive, single-vineyard wine was hand-picked and 20% barrel-fermented. Made in a dry style, it is full-bodied, with concentrated, ripe peach, pear and spice flavours, oak and lees-aging notes adding a touch of complexity, and a finely balanced finish. Drink now or cellar.
